Vitamins for hair loss

Hair loss is one of the specific symptoms of nutritional deficiencies, anemia, stress, chronic fatigue and other such conditions of the modern world. You will find on the market several nutritional supplements and vitamins for hair loss, like Provillus, but, before starting to take them, you may want to check with a specialist.

Usually, a physician or nutritionist will look not only at your hair, but at the skin and nails too, in order to find what substances you’re missing. On the other hand, if you want to take vitamins for general maintenance of your organism, they are sure to have positive effects on the hair as well. The Journal of the American Medical Association recommends one multivitamin supplement per day for mostly everybody.

Supplements for healthier hair usually include protein (because that’s what the hair is made of), fatty acids (like omega-3), a range of minerals, such as zinc, iron, copper and magnesium, and a full range of vitamins for hair loss – A, the B complex, Biotin, and vitamin C.

The shortage of vitamin A causes dandruff, and may lead to hair loss, when the dead cells stash up in the hair follicles. All the three B vitamins (B6, folic acid, B12) are vital, because they insure a constant supply of blood to the hair. Shortages of biotin are known to cause severe hair loss, but this problem is very rare, found mostly among people with very severe alimentation disorders. Most supplements for hair loss contain biotin, but it hasn’t been clearly determined if a supplement of this vitamin will actually make the hair healthier or not. Shortages of vitamin C cause split ends and thinned hair, because this vitamin is essential for the production of collagen – which ads strength and elasticity, keeping the hair tissues together.

Women are more likely than men to require some supplements or vitamins for hair loss, particularly those who are on severe or fad diets. Also, people who have been taking antibiotics for a long time may be at risk. This should be taken very seriously – in this case, hair loss is just the first symptom and more severe ones may follow.

The vitamins for hair loss come in a wide range, in various combinations, or combined with minerals and plant extracts, starting from about $15 a bottle with 60 pills. You should keep in mind that they are helpful only if you don’t get enough vitamins from your regular diet. If your body is not short on vitamins, then forcing it to receive more supplements will not have a beneficial effect.
