To prevent or stop undesirable hair loss, it is important to look for potential hair loss causes first.
Different causes need different treatments approaches. Careful diagnostics will save you money and frustration.
There are many types of hair loss causes. Yet, it is relatively easy to narrow the most likely suspects by looking at your situation from different sides.
First, remember and think carefully about what was happening before the hair loss started, especially within previous three to six months. Any illness, treatments or medications, or strange symptoms? Any big stressful events? Any abrupt changes in your diet or body weight? Did hair loss problem developed gradually or appeared abruptly?
Second, your health condition and hair loss pattern should be carefully examined. Do you see hair thinning – more scalp shows gradually – or hair shedding – much hair falls out? Does it shows in spots or is it more diffuse?
All such preliminary observations will help you and your physician to diagnose your specific hair loss reasons.
A physician can also do tests (such as blood tests and hair sample analysis with a microscope) that pinpoint or rule out many less apparent hair loss causes, like anemia, low blood sugar, nutritional disbalances, or thyroid related hormone problems.
One of the most common hair loss causes is heredity. It touches both men (especially as a common boldness) and women. And it can come from either of your parents, mother or farther. But before jumping to conclusions and starting any treatment for this type of hair loss, check other possible reasons as well. Sometimes genetic boldness does not show itself until it is also supported by some hormonal changes.
