So You Know You Got Hereditary Baldness?

Baldness is not new anymore among men especially during old age. But what is this thing called hereditary baldness which accounts to 95% of hair loss? In the United States alone, 40 million men are affected by male pattern baldness (abbreviated as MPB).

Hereditary baldness (MPB) or medically termed as androgenetic alopecia is a natural condition of losing hair due to genes and hormones combined with aging. The testosterone, which is the male hormone, is transformed in the scalp into another kind of hormone called dihydrotestosterone. Because of abnormal pattern, the hair becomes shorter and thinner, and soon can start falling out. Since it is natural, it is not related with itching, pain, and redness.

Contrary to popular belief, male pattern baldness is not only inherited from an individual’s mother’s family but also the father’s family was proven to contribute in the level of hormone that affects the growth of the hair.

This condition may also occur among women but the risk is higher among men. Usually, hereditary baldness starts at the age of 30-50 but it is evident among women when they are approaching their menopausal period. While females experience general thinning of their hairs, male baldness usually begins with the thinning at the site of hairline and then a bald spot on the crown of the head appears leading to a pattern in an M shape.

To determine male pattern baldness a common symptom may occur which is the thinning of the hair on your scalp. It is important to know if any of your family members or relatives is experiencing or had experienced losing hair.

Male pattern baldness is diagnosed by a certain individual’s history and pattern of similar case among family members. It is considered to be permanent but some find ways to prevent this by using particular treatments, like Provillus.
